Each control center is unique given specific requirements of each installation, the type of activity and other features. However, within its design phase there are certain aspects which are common in most projects. Among these, a proper space arrangement in control rooms.

Role and functions

Every operator is devoted to its own tasks. Usually, control rooms accomodate operators in charge of different roles and functions. One criteria for its arrangement responds to hierarchy as is the case of operator and supervisor positions. Another reason for space divison may be funded what type of tasks and activities are carried out, thus operators undergoing similar tasks in their area.

Improve communication and interaction

Communication and interaction between users is essential in any control center, whether it is between colleagues, with supervisors or remotely. For those away, technology is in charge.

For those present in the control center, a previous room arrangement which eases interaction at workplace is required. This involves considering the appropriate orientation of workplace, foresee the expected interaction among them, as well as ensure the right display of screens, among other aspects.

Content visualisation

Videowalls, screens and monitors are part of the usual portrait of mission-critical environments, turning into key devices for the right operation of the room.

Room operators are constantly relying on screens to allow information processing to allow decision-making processos. Therefore, it is clear the need of an appropriate space arrangement which allows screen visualisation, an appropriate angle view and enough distance from workplace.

Free pass space

An ideal distribution of the spaces in the room must also take into account the passage spaces. These are suitable passageways for comfortable movement of users, also facilitating communication and interaction with other spaces in the room.

In case of having several rows, the space behind each user must be sufficient to allow them leaving their workplace without disturbing their colleagues as well as accessing exits.
